5 of the Best Remote Stays In Tasmania.
You are totally spoilt for choice when it comes to unique stays in Tasmania that tick the box for serenity. With more than 20% of the state world heritage listed to preserve our pristine habitats, here are our top 5 remote stays, from West Coast to East Coast that are hidden enough that not everyone has found them yet! Genuine recommendations from the heart that are unpaid and unsponsored - just good old-fashioned GREAT!
Cradle Mountain - Wild Rest, Off Grid Eco Stay With A Sauna.
Stays on Cradle Mountain itself only consists of rather bland chain hotels due to it being a National Park. Hotels are all centred in one area mainly consisting of car parks and cues of bus tours. The very best way to experience Cradle Mountain is to stay close enough to the base, to explore the hikes, drives and scenery as a day trip, with a good picnic and a thermos of something warm! Wild Rest, about 1.5 hours away (but an incredible drive to the top!) is an off-grid regenerative slow stay, that was crafted as a creators cabin complete with a private sauna and an outdoor bath, Wild Rest is our pick of the bunch!
Freycinet National Park - The Reads, A River Front Tassie Shack That's Pet Friendly!
Like Cradle Mountain, Freycinet is a National Park, so hotel options with the reserve itself are rather bustling! We love The Reads, based just outside of Freycinet National Park to make it handy to day trip, however you have an entire river frontage to yourself, as well as luxury accommodation that doesn't come much better for the price of a hotel room. And, the cherry on top, this lovely spot is pet and dog friendly. We highly recommend it!
Bay of Fires - Sloop Cottage, Tasmanian Shacklife at its Absolute Best.
Sloop cottage is one of those remote accommodation gems which feels truly unspoiled and undiscovered. Most accomodation options to explore the pristine beaches in the Bay of Fires area are based in Binalong Bay, and bustling holiday hamlet. Sloop Cottage is nestled down a dirt track (but 2-wheel drive friendly) right on its own private beach, with only one sleepy shack neighbour. This is a true Tasmanian Shack experience at its core. A remote stay that is so rare, please don't tell too many people about it!
Bruny Island - Sheepwash Bay, Privacy, Solitude, Bruny Island Baker & Pristine Wilderness.
Most accomodation options in Tasmania are grouped into villages or hamlets - so truly remote stays are hard to find. Bruny Island is no exception, with almost all options available to stay in having neighbours only a few steps away. This can particularly be a bummer over school holiday season with kids doing the sorts of things kids do when they are on a beach trip! The exception to that is the incredible estate of Sheepwash Bay, which is down a gated private road, remoteness is guaranteed. It's even so far off the grid, it's totally off grid! They have two cabin offerings, The Shack with its outdoor bath and The Hide which gives a bit more luxury with its stunning 180 degree ocean views. And, as a lovely surprise, not only do you have your own private beaches and forests to explore, complete with a rare white wallaby who loves to make an appearance, but it's also home to the Bruny Baker, which you might also known as the iconic Bruny Bread Fridge. If he is in residence, you may find yourself with some fresh sourdough delivered to your door each morning. Central Highlands - Merino Cottage, An Entire Farm To Yourself, Complete With Rivers, Lakes and Sheep.
Would you fancy an entire expansive pristine Merino farm? All 2000 Hectares of rolling hills for miles in every direction all on your own? Spring lambs bouncing past your doorstep? Private rivers and lakes just for you? A cabin perched right on the water? My final pick is one of the most incredible offerings to hit Tasmania, and it’s in all honesty a money can’t buy experience. This multi general Tasmanian farmstay is hosted by the lovely Pip — farmer, mother, grandmother and jack of all trades. A truly unique Tasmanian experience that anyone lucky enough to stay will treasure the memories made for a lifetime.
