Beginning its life as a handbuilt fishermen's shack at the turn of last century, this humble cabin right on the edge of the bay became a place of respite for Sarah Andrews. A Designer, Author and Sailor, she sank her boat Gabrielle in the Pacific Ocean whilst attempting a solo circumnavigation. Washed ashore here at the edge of the world Tasmania, this Tasmanian Shack became a place of solace and respite, hence her fond name, Captain’s Rest.
The accolades for this humble seaside shack are long, and the love for her has spread far and wide. Named “Australia’s Most Special Stay” and “Tasmania’s Most Famous Airbnb”, her doors are open to all looking for wonderment, adventure and heart wrenching natural beauty. Captain’s Rest is far more than just a spot to rest between here and there - it’s a true journey from this world to the next.

Getting to Strahan requires some planning, as it is beautifully secluded and surrounded by Tasmania's wild nature. Here’s what you need to know:
Air Travel: Both Hobart and Launceston Airports are equally accessible to Captains Rest. Sea Travel: If you're embarking from Melbourne, consider the Spirit of Tasmania. This ferry docks in Devonport, from where Strahan is a closer 3-hour drive. Car Travel: Since Strahan is remote, having a car is essential. This gives you the flexibility to explore the area at your own pace and ensures you can reach your accommodation comfortably. Mobile Connectivity: Be prepared for limited mobile coverage, with Telstra being the only service provider. We recommend printing your travel and accommodation instructions beforehand to avoid any inconvenience upon arrival.
